Chrysler Repair: 3.0L: water pump leak or O-ring leak, crankshaft pulley, haynes manual

Question
I read your answer to another water leak and really needed to know how to determine whether it is the pipe "O"ring or the pump itself.  From underneath the car looking up from the rear, it looks like the water is coming from a small rectangular opening on the front of the engine.  the front being the lower left side looking from the front of the car.

Thanks

Answer
Hi John,
If the O-ring(s) is leaking, it usually will run to the rear of the engine (right side when looking from the front of the car) along the cavity surrounding the pipe that returns the water to the pump from the lower radiator hose and heater, while if the pump itself is leaking it usually runs down the internal front of the engine (hidden by the timing belt covers) where the pulleys and timing belt are located and then drips on the ground below the crankshaft pulley. Thanks for looking thru the previous questions, and good luck on the replacement. Do you have the manual for changing out the pump? And if the timing belt hasn't been changed for around 60,000 or more miles it might be prudent to change the belt while you are doing the pump so as to not have to do the same repair work over again.
Let me know if you need any pages from the shop manual. Or get a Haynes manual for the car, which is pretty good. You can get back to me by the comment section of the "rate the expert" tab.
