Chrysler Repair: Sebring 2000 JXI Conv: no brake lights, check fuse, brake switch

Question
My brake lights do not work.  All my fuses are fine, the running lights, blinkers and reverse lights all work.  What could the cause be?

Answer
Hi Jacob,
Check fuse 15 under the dash and fuse 6 in the underhood box. Look for a subtle crack in the interior wire.
The brake filaments are also used for the turn signals so check those too. If the turns work, but not the brake, then I would focus on the switch which is mounted above the brake pedal arm on a bracket, under the dash. Check to see if it might have come unplugged from its plug nearby, or if the plunger is hung up and fails to move when the brake pedal is operated. Also try gently pulling the brake pedal rearward, which is the technique for adjusting the brake sweitch striker/switch interfacr to the correct position.
The electronics of the brake lights are tied into both the powertrain controller and the body computer which are responsible for also actuating the brake lights (because both the idle speed and cruise control need an input from that brake switch). Thus there is no single fuse that would be responsible for just the brake lights. I suspect the switch itself, but let me know if that is not the case. If the turns don't work either then I would check the bulbs to begin with.
