Chrysler Repair: 1998 Chrysler Town And Country, chrysler town and country, body control module

Question
Dash lights, ABS, BATTERY and others may flicker on and off while driving.  Sometimes when I turn the key to start, I get nothing.  Blank dash.  Interior lights work so battery seems fine.  Sometimes door open dinging  as if I have key in ignition when I do not.  Sometimes it all works fine.

Answer
Hi Timothy,
My suspecion would be that there is an internal contact inside the ignition switch that is oxidized or worn and that is producing intermittent losses of voltage to the body control module which needs to have voltage from three of the six separate sections inside the switch.
My thought would be to remove the under panel of the dash that covers the area between the steering column and the left side wall (and detach the hood release cable from the handle so you can drop it out of the way), then the remove the upper and lower steering column covers which would give you access to the ignition switch. For electrical safety I would remove the - post clamp from the battery. Then I would spray the inside of that ignition switch through whatever cracks/access holes there might be using a spray can of electrical circuit board cleaner with a straw for squirting. Then exercise the switch using the key a few times and give it another squirt, and then put it all back together and see if that resolves the issue. Having all those disparate systems malfunctioning intermittently points toward one unit that is involved with all of them, the body control module, and if it had a flaky voltage supply almost anything could malfunction.
