Chrysler Repair: 2005 Chrysler Pacifica gas gauge problem, 2005 chrysler pacifica, chrysler pacifica

Question
I took my car to the dealer , and they replaced the two sensors in the gas tank, my gas gauge stills flucuates, from 1/2 tank to empty. What else could this be? When it does this it says that that i have no gas, but i know that it has gas, could it be some other sensor? My car had a malfunction error of the fuel syphon line disconnected. Where would this be at, or how can we fix this? I hope you have some answers for me.

Answer
Hi Tammy,
I don't have direct experience or manuals for the Pacifica but because the sensors have been changed with no improvement the balance of the circuit is where I would look. The body computer is where the wires from the sensors are connected and that unit converts the voltage readings into a digital format for transmittal to the gas gauge/warning light. I have often learned of problems related to the body computer functions (which are legion) that arise due to short circuits at the plug/socket interfaces where the sensor wires connect. This seems to most often be due to water having dripped onto the plugs/sockets from overhead which is often the windshield corner. I am not certain whether the Pacifica is set up like the vans of several years earlier, but if so then you might find the body computer is attached to the back side of the fuse box that is under the dash on the driver's side. And its plugs are on the backside of the computer. If the history of the problem is coincidental with heavy rains/car washes and/or you find water on the carpeting underneath then that is a distinct possible cause.
Were that the case you could ameliorate the problem by removing the plugs on the back side and (using some electrical circuit board cleaner that comes in a spray can from an electronics store) evaporate away the moisture on the plugs and their sockets.
That would be the next possibility to investigate.
