Chrysler Repair: 1996 jeep duty cycle soleniod, jeep engines, engine controller

Question
I have a v8 jeep chareeke and the duty cycle solenoid that is located in the right (drivers side) front of the engine compartment clicks on and off frequently. It sounds like a sticking valve on the care it cycles so frequently. I do not get an error code on the Mod.

Answer
Hi Ron,
It could either be the solenoid or its wiring or the engine controller. It has two wires: remove the plug and check the voltage at the pins compared to engine ground: one should have a steady 12V and the other either no voltage or the same 12V which are the solenoid activated/unactivated situations. If you find those to be the situation (with no oscillations) then I would suspect the solenoid is faulty. If one of the voltages is oscillating at a high rate, then either there is break/short in that wire, or a problemmatic engine controller function. Try shaking/bending the harness to see if that would steady the reading. If not, then I would trace the individual wires to the sources and check the wires specifically for intermittent patency. If they seem steady in their continuities, then I would suspect that the engine controller is acting up or the power supply for the constant voltage is flaky, I don't have wiring diagrams for any of the Jeep engines, so I am going on general principles.
