Chrysler Repair: fuel pump? 91 LeBaron V-6, fuel pump relay, chrystler

Question
i changed the timing belt on a 1991 chrystler lebaron 3.0 v6, and it ran good for a couple of hours then i got home turned it on and it would turn on, it would just crank, i didnt hear t he fuel pump turn on at all and im used to hearing it before i turn on the vehicle, so i went under the car and hooked up the volt metter at the terminals of the fuel pump, and when ignotion is on there no voltage, but when i crank it it gives 10v or so,  do u think its the fuel pump thats bad or a relay somewhere? since i cant seem to locate the relay anywhere, can u help me?

Answer
Hi Juan,
The sound of the pump lasts about for 1 second and then of course will start again when you are cranking it over but you can't always hear it then because of the engine noise. The automatic shutdown relay appears to be OK; there is not a separate fuel pump relay. I believe  the voltage is low because you are cranking it over at that time. I would try charging up the battery perhaps to raise the voltage and get the pump to be heard for that 1 second when you turn the key to "run" just to be sure it is working, or you could try jumping directly from the battery to the pump and see if you hear it then when you aren't needing to crank it.
The other thing to do is to get any fault codes that may have been recognized and stored in the engine controller memory. Use the ignition key:"On-off-on-off-on and leave it on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light which remains "on" to begin to flash, pause, flash, pause, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to assure an accurate count. Then group the numbers in pairs in the order of appearance to form the 2-digit fault code numbers. The last number is always 55 which is the code for "end of readout". Then go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code list, or write back with the results and we can go from there. I assume you have the J-body convert/coupe, but let me know if you have a GTS instead.
