Chrysler Repair: cam sensor code, cam sensor, finite life

Question
what is a cam sensor code and does it have somethingtodo with the engine?

Answer
Hi Natalie,
The code means that the signal from the sensor that looks at the valve cam position and reports it to the engine computer is not being seen by the computer. It might be the wiring between the two is "open" but more likely the sensor has failed. It is a solid electronic cyrstal device that has a finite life due to the heating and cooling of it over long time periods. The most common number for the code is P0340. Without the sensor signal the proper pulsing of the fuel injectors and spark plugs will be impaired and often prevent the engine from running at all.
Usually the sensor is very accessible and easy to replace. It might cost about $75 and should take more than 15-30 minutes of time to replace. Let me know the specifics of your situation if you would like.
