Chrysler Repair: clutch wearing out too fast, why?, clutch disc, clutch pedal

Question
We have a 2000 Voyager and had to have the clutch replaced
at 22,000 miles.  Is this unusual?  Does that mean we will again have a clutch
problem at 50,000 miles or so?

Answer
Hi George,
I am unaware of any problem with the clutch on your minivan. I would suggest a visit to your local library to review the April issues of Consumer Reports, between 2002 and 2006, to see what the "frequency of repair" records show. If it shows no higher than average problems then I would doubt it is a design/manufacture problem.
The other concern would be that one of the drivers of the van is allowing the clutch to slip when engaging/disengaging it, or is
"riding" the clutch when waiting at a stop light or keeping a foot on the clutch pedal when in motion. The first will wear out the clutch disc, the second will wear out the throwout bearing.
Those are the possibilities as I see it.
