Chrysler Repair: 99 Dodge Intrepid belt tension, torsion spring, belt tension

Question
How do I tighten the belt on the power steering and alternator?

Answer
Hi Michael,
I assume that you have the 2.7L engine. The belt tension is maintained by a torsion spring which can be placed in one of two positions (new belt or used belt). If it is now in the new belt position, then you would want to go thru a procedure that changes the position to the used belt position. It would probably be helpful if you had the page that shows the various part and positions graphically. I can only offer to xerox copy the 3 pages that show how to deal with this belt and postal mail them to you. If you would like that, use the "thank and rate" tab where there is a space for comments where you can give me a postal address. An alternative maybe to go to Autozone.com where they may have instructions for belt replacement/adjustment shown for your year and engine.
