Chrysler Repair: 1997 Town & Country: AC/Heater Problems, expertise thanks, chrysler dealer

Question
My vehicle is a 1997 Chrysler Town & Country LXi 3.8L V6. The AC has not worked for the last two summers, but I managed to survive. However, the heat just quit working and I'm about to freeze to death. When the AC is turned on, it blows warm air. The front heat is blowing cool air. The rear heat won't turn on at all...the switch does not turn on the blower. I took it to the local Chrysler dealer just to have it checked, so that I would know what was wrong and hopefully, repair it myself. According to the dealer:

1) The AC has a leak (kinda figured that). They said that they could charge up the system, add dye, and watch for the leak. The cost to find the leak, $100. The cost to repair the leak to be determined after the leak is found.

2) Replace thermostat for heat, $150.

3) Replace rear blower motor and resistor for rear fan, $500.

Are these repairs that I should be able to do myself? Do you have instructions for how to do so?

I truly appreciate your time and expertise.

Thanks in advance,

Eric in Kentucky

Answer
does the engine temp get to normal range when u are driving or does it stay down to the cold area?  If it does non of this  thermostat will not do u any good.

Look under the dash for the modes and temp door actuators move the slider and see if the motors move and the doors behind them.  as for the back one  remove the right rear panel enough so u can see if u have power  and ground when u turn the fan on from up front.
