Chrysler Repair: 94 plymouth acclaim 3.0 with automatic: won shift, 94 plymouth acclaim, mail route

Question
I drive my car on my mail route.  I notice after  stopping and going several times it won't shift into high gear until I stop, and restart the engine, then its find for awhile until it it does it again.  What do you think the problem is? The fluid and filter has been changed.

Answer
Hi Philip,
Ehe transmission controller has recognized a fualt that may cause damage to the trans. It has logged the problem as a 2-digit fault code in its memory and put the trans in "limp-in" mode. The best thing to do is go to a dealer or an independent trans shop that has a fault readout box called a Chrysler DBB II with a data link connector plug that attaches to a socket under the dash near the steering column (this is a different socket from the one in the engine compartment).
Once you get a code(s), ask for the number, what they mean, what they propose to do. Then write back and we can compare what you were told against the shop manual. It could be repairable without removing the trans from the car, or it could require a rebuild, but the code is what you need first.
