Chrysler Repair: 94 Concorde Hood Opening: How to release, release latch, screwdriver

Question
Hello Roland, I contacted you a few weeks ago about the sensor issue and that my son's car is not starting.  Don;t have that figured out yet. First, we cannot get the hood open as the release latch inside the car on the floor is not working.  What is the trick to getting a hood open when this happens?  The hood is actually a replacement one and not fitting well so I can get my hand under there a little and think I can feel the thing that would normally be the second release.

Answer
Hi Colleen,
To release the primary latch (the one that is operated by the handle in the car) you need to get under the car where with some lighting help from underneath you will see the latch mechanism. There is a cable running crosswise from the driver side that attaches to the latch at a lever which also has a horizontal spring attached to it. Take a tool such as a screwdriver or a rod and push that lever toward the driver side which will open the latch, particularly if a helper is alternately pulling up or pressing down on the hood so the latch lever will move to the side. Then you will see an accessory wire handle attached to the secondary release which you can pull to the rear, or after you release the primary latch you may be able to get to the secondary release as you would normally.
So have your son get under the car and work with you to move that primary latch toward the left side of the car.
These latches are designed to be released in this manner in the case that the cable breaks so it is a normal problem that you can correct.
