Chrysler Repair: Loss of horn&cruise control 91 lebaron, safety requirement, steering wheel

Question
Have 91 lebaron conv. 3.0 horn&cruise control both out at same time .all fuses chk. good. any thoughts as to cause?

Answer
Hi Joe,
Yes, there are two possibilities:
There is a connector for those two functions and the wires that come through the column to the steering wheel. It is located near the base of the steering column. So check in that area to be sure there is no disconnected plug which would disable both.
The other cause if the connections look good is the "clockspring" connector that allows wires along the column to be attached reliably to the steering wheel. It is essentially a rotary wrap of those wires, looking much like a clockspring,  and you get at it by removing the steering column. You no doubt can get a replacement at the dealer parts counter as it also carries the air bag wire which is a safety requirement. These are known to wearout in time.
