Chrysler Repair: 87 New Yorker 2.5, Code 22, coolant temperature sensor, coolant temp

Question
QUESTION: I have resolved my speedo problem, I think, but still have the Power Loss Light with Code 22.  This causes hesitation on acceleration bur car runs fairly well even after replacing the TPS. I have checked all the underhood wiring and can see no problems.  Is controller you referred to the aluminium box at the side of the passenger side?  It is hard to see but it has 2 different size connectors on top.  Should I be able to read a voltage at the TPS cpnnector with ingnition on.   Thanks for all your help.

ANSWER: Hi Burnie,
The code 22 refers to the coolant temperature sensor voltage being too low or too high. It is located on the side of the thermostat housing which is a box below the 3rd and 4th spark plugs. Remove the plug by lifting the tab, then check the resistance across its contacts: when cold it should read 10,000 to 14,000 ohm, and as the engine warms up it should drop down smoothly to 700 to 1,000 ohms at operating temperature. Check the wires from the plug to the harness for damage. When you pull the plug on the sensor the fan will come on automatically which is normal.
Yes the logic module is where you describe it to be with two plugs. The tan wire from the coolant temp sensor is attached to pin 23 of the black plug and the ground wire is attached to pin 25 of the natural plug. The orange/white on the TPS is on pin 1 of the black and the orange/dark blue is on pin 21. Ground wire is the same as for the coolant temp sensor.

QUESTION: Thanks for reply. I really appreciate you knowledge. Wish you were my neighbour. On previous question I made a typo error and should have said Code 24 not 22.

Answer
Hi Burnie,
No problem...Yes, you should be able to verify the function of the tps with the ignition in the run position:
the orange/white should have 5 volts, the orange/dark blue should vary smoothly between 5 and 0 as you move the throttle. Measure those voltages relative to the ground wire.
Have you erased the codes by removing the - post cable for a few minutes? Keep watching for a new code. With the power loss light illuminated you should find there to be a new code.
