Question
a family member somehow got the trunk key into the ingnition. it starts the car but will not release. How can I get this wrong key out. The car does run but will not release teh key

Answer
Hi Nuny,
I have checked the procedure for removing the key cylinder and find that the next to the last step is to remove the key from the lock cylinder. My thought was that you could take the key and cylinder to a locksmith for a removal.
In light of that wrinkle, my suggestion would be to go to a locksmith and let them try their skill. They would want to remove the tilt lever (unscrew) and the upper and lower column covers. To release the cylinder you place it in the lock position, then press in the retaining tab (on the side of the lock cylinder housing), then rotate to the Off position, then remove the cylinder about 1/8", then rotate back to the lock position, then remove the key, then remove the lock cylinder. It is possible if you go thru this procedure that the key will come out just before the cylinder removal step. So try this.
