Chrysler Repair: auto lock replacement: can be re-keyed?, lock cylinder, key code

Question
I need to have the lock replaced on my passenger door.  Can the replacement be made so that the same key will still open the lock or will I require different keys for each door now?

Answer
Hi Robert,
I believe that the lock cylinder is interchangeable, so when you get the new cylinder then just have a locksmith reconfigure the tumbler/pins so that the new cylinder will operate with the original key. One possibility would be to ask at the dealer, if that is where you are buying the cylinder, whether if you can give the key code (found on an original key) they can order the cylinder to be set up to match the existing key?
The cylinder is removed by taking off the external latch mechanism and then you should find a couple of screws on the inside of the mechanism that when removed will allow you to remove the old cylinder and put in the new one. If you can't get the new cylinder rekeyed by Chrysler, then you can take the whole assembly to the locksmith and then they can be sure it all works right.
