Chrysler Repair: Chrysler LHS, 1997: Blower only runs on high, chrysler lhs, speed blower

Question
The fan speed switch for Heater/AC stopped working.  Fan is stuck on high.  How can I fix this?  Do I need to replace the entire module or should I check a few other things before buying a new module?

Answer
Hi Wayne,
No you don't need a control module, rather you need a new component called either a blower power module (if you have an ATC type) or a blower resistor block (if you have the 4-speed conventional type control). In either case, you remove the lower right underdash silencer/duct so as to see the underside of the heater/AC housing so you can locate the blower and its motor on the right hand end. Then look for the wire that goes to the blower motor and trace it back to where it plugs in. The thing that it plugs into, located in one of the ducts of the system, is what you need to replace. Just pull the blower motor plug, remove the two screws that hold the module/block in the duct and pull it out. Buy a replacement and reverse the steps and you will have multi-speed blower operation again.
