Chrysler Repair: fuel pump inlet and outlet?: 01 town and country, haynes manual, valve function

Question
Took fuel pump off 01 town and country lx. how do tell which one is the inlet and outlet on the pump?

Answer
Hi Larry,
I looked at my '98 factory manual as well as a Haynes manual and neither shows a distinction between the fittings. I suppose there is nothing written on the skirts of the nipples? About the only operational approach would be to try blowing/sucking on either nipple. The inlet nipple just flows thru a filter whereas the outlet has a check valve to maintain the pressure in the system when the pump is de-energized. So perhaps you will find a difference between how the nipples deal with pressure or vacuum generated by your lungs. The one that locks up in one direction (check valve function) is probably the outlet, I would think.
Sorry I can't give you anything definitive.
