Chrysler Repair: no power, 94, code translation, plymout

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have no power in the engine when I accelerate from stop or go uphill.  I
have a Chrysler Plymout Acclaim, 1994 model with 129,000 miles on it.  Oil
and fluids were checked, new tires, otherwise fine.  Can you help me?  I think
you gave me a code to use with the ignition before, I don't have the numbers.
Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Jennifer,
Use the ignition key to see if you have any fault codes:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light which remains on to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause, then repeat to verify and assure an accurate count. Then group the numbers in pairs in the order of appearance. The last pair is always 55 which means 'end of readout'. Then go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code translation. Then write back for specific instruction on what to do. I may be tied up for a couple of hours but try later in the day. Tell me which engine is in the car.

QUESTION: HI,
With the ignition key, it reads  "5-5" only.  I did it twice and that was all it did.
I am not sure what size engine but I think it is 4 cylinder.  The mechanic said
it was only running on 3 cyls last time.  I will get more info tomorrow.

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
Well if it only produces power on three cylinders that in itself would be your reason for a lack of power. Again, depending upon the engine the cause could be an injector, a spark plug, the distributor, etc.  If all four cylinders were operating and you still had low power, then you might have the catalytic converter checked for whether it is clogged up and impeding the release of exhaust gas.
Without a code, it means that something pretty basic but that is not monitored by the engine control system, is wrong. If it is in the hands of a mechanic, that should give you an answer. Thanks for reporting the code results.
Let me know if I can give you specific help or advice on a proposed repair job.
