Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Sebring LXi 2001:dash board lights out., illumination lights, check fuse

Question
The dash board cluster illumination lights are off. I found the reference to a DC to AC invertor mounted to the back of the cluster in the answer from Albert on 2006-11-02 09:04:56. Could you advise on this? How could I remove the cluster from the dash board? Where to start? Regards, Ziggy

Answer
Hi Ziggy,
I need to know if you have a convertible or a sedan vehicle as both are Sebring but they have different wiring. I will have to look up that answer...it is the first I have heard about such an inverter as relates to the cluster illumination. There is no reason for needing AC to illuminate the lamps, in any case. If you have the convertible, check fuse #7 in the junction box. If you have the sedan the fuse for the cluster run so many other things that I can't believe that if it were bad that would be the only thing wrong. I would first check the rheostat on the headlight switch to see if it has stopped putting out a variable voltage for the dimming function. Sometimes owners accidentally turn the headlamp switch's variable panel illumination to the "off" position without realizing it. Also, when you write back tell me if the other lamps on the entire dash are similarly not working.
