Chrysler Repair: Cherokee theft damage: new steering column, but no start, jeep line, t claim

I installed a new column in a 2000 cherokee(full size) THE security system won't let it start, the original transponder was ruined in the theft....any ideas?

Hi David,
I don't claim expertise with the Jeep line, nor with vehicles at or beyond 2000, but I wonder if the system had a "smart key" and if so there is probably some sort of software re-programming that needs to be done to incorporate the new column sensor into the body computer where the 'brain' of the theft system is located. You might try asking either Kevin at this Chrysler repair category, or also I notice there is another category for auto alarm problems that seems to be quite busy and would probably know for sure.
