Chrysler Repair: 2000 Town & Country:stalls when slowing down, independent shop, engine controller

Question
I have a Town & Country van that stalls when coming to a stop or turning.  Recently I took it for a tune up, but it did not eliminate problem.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Alan,
Asking the engine controller for any faults it may have noticed is a good way to start. These four-digit code numbers are indicative of what may be the cause. An Autozone parts store will ofter do a readout for free. If not go to an independent shop which will cost $40 or less.
Tell me what the numbers are, if any, and we can go from there. You might try the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave it on", doing that in 5 seconds or less. Then watch to see if any such numbers appear in the odometer window instead of the usual mileage number. It may or may not work too.
The other possibility is that your egr valve is a bit sticky and is ajar, when it really should be closed. It is located in a pipe that connects the rear exhaust manifold to the throttle body intake manifold area, and you will see it bolted into that pipe. Notice that it has a round vacuum operated fitting on the top, the body of valve in the pipe proper, and in between the two there is flange inside of which you will see a rod with a slot. That is the valve stem, and if you stick a screwdriver's tip in the slot you can move the valve stem back and forth, against spring action in one direction which helps to close it. Make sure the valve stem moves freely, and if not, then spray it with WD-40 where it enter the body of the valve.
Those are my best suggestions for now.
