Answer
Hi Joe,
I suspect that either the cam or the crank sensor is failing and it does so as it heats up to operating temperature. Then when it cools, it is back to operating again. You can get a code readout for free as Autozone parts stores or for less than $40 at an independent shop. The fault codes for the crank and cam sensors are 0320 and 0340, respectively. You might get a readout by turning the ignition key "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less. Then watch to see whether the odometer reading changes to give you any four-digit fault codes such as the ones I listed above. If not, then get a readout via the underdash plug socket. If such a sensor fails it also kills the fuel pump so that is a good sign that a sensor like one of those two is the issue. If you want to replace it yourself it is not difficult. Write back and let me know which sensor is bad and which engine you have in the car.
