Chrysler Repair: ATC 1994 Chrysler NY, negative battery cable, automatic temperature control

Question

Question
I disconnected the negative battery cable while working on the headlights of my 1994 Chrysler New Yorker.  I reconnected the (-) battery cable and drove my car. When I turned on the Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) I heard a clicking noise, and also noticed only heat was blowing out of the vents, even when the temperature was set at 60 and the AC was on. Using the diagnostic mode on the ATC, the clicking noise was again heard and the code #32 was displayed.  Code 32 = ATC blend door stall failure.  Is this the problem?  Did I blow a fuse or something when I reconnected the battery cable?  Is the ATC blend door stall failure something I can repair myself?

Answer
Hi Richard,
The blend air door actuator/position sensor is located on the bottom of the unit just above the floor tunnel. To get to it you need to remove the two under panel silencer/ducts. Then remove the two screws that hold the actuator on the right side, and one screw on the left side. Pull the actuator straight down and disconnect the electrical connector. Note the position of the shaft as it is keyed to the door socket. You might check whether the door is moveable or not by turning the socket by hand. It may just be jammed. Otherwise the actuator is said by the manual to not be reparable, but check it out anyway. The ATC not only actuates the door shaft, but it also senses the door position. I doubt you blew a fuse, it may just be a logic problem or a door jam. So make sure everything moves, put it together again and see what happens.
