Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Cirrus: transmission bands?, chrysler cirrus, franchise type

Question
QUESTION: Where are the bands located?I was told that we could adjust them but we cant find them in the book?

ANSWER: Hi Laura,
The only "bands" I am familiar with are those that are used in the non-electronically controller automatic transmissions. The Cirrus does not have that type of transmission so there are no bands to adjust. If you are having trouble with your transmission I would recommend getting a fault code readout and see if the electronic controller for the trans has any four-digit codes stored in its memory. You may be able to get a free readout at an Autozone parts store, or for around $40 at an independent shop, or $80 at a dealer. Get the specific code numbers, what they mean/title, what is recommended to do, and how much for the repair? Then write back with the results and I can check that diagnosis against the shop manual. Please mention the year/engine of the car. And please don't use the "private" option as no one else can see our discussion which could otherwise be helpful to them.

QUESTION: Ok Thanks!!! We were told that it could be the bands...Thats why I was asking..The Year is 1995 Chrysler Cirrus. Thanks

Answer
Hi Laura,
If the transmission is only driving in 2nd gear that means that it has recognized a fault and gone into "limp in mode" which uses the fewest parts so as to reduce the risk of damage, until you can get a diagnosis. It also means that it will have a fault code stored in its memory. So get that done and then lets see what it means. Don't go to a nationwide franchise type trans shop for the readout, and do not accept a recommendation for a 'rebuild' without a 2nd opinion.
