Chrysler Repair: 1999 LHS, wrecked car, engine computer

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a problem I've never seen before my cousin has a LHS he put a new motor in started the car was running fine shut it off to do something, he tried to start the car it would start and run for a few seconds then shut down after about 4 or 5 times of starting and shutting down now the car won't do anything the prove out on the dash lites up you turn the key nothing? I have a 1999 intrepid with a 2.7 the wiring in the books appear to be the same so I had him try the computer out of it and after 4 or 5 starts it locked that computer down it appears to be locking down in a theft mode other than taking it to a dealer is their any other way of getting this thing to run? I am up to buying a used snap on computer with the software but will a snap on computer work or do I have to have the DRB 2 ? please help ....Or is this thing burning the computers up? Thank you...

ANSWER: u guys messed up by swapping computer  if either of u have a gray key and u swapped computers  now both of u have the same programing and the one with the alarm system will need to be programed to the car and the other is out of luck.
The gray key is dealer only stuff.I live in the Atlanta area I would be glad to look at it for u.

QUESTION: Hi again I'm not worried about the second computer as it came out of a wrecked car we bought for the motor my question is why did this happen in the first place and when it does go into the theft mode does it also shut down the starter? We live in Michigan but we might just have to send you plane fare
let me know it maybe on it's way to the dealer the trouble with that I'm not so sure they will be just willing to reset the computer..Thank you for a fast response...

Answer
why did it shut down the car  because the gray key is the new style alarm system. IF u cut ne old key some one can get it  but if they same key is not programed to the car  the engine computer will look for up to 4 keys and if they don't match  like u typing in a pin to an ATM it will shut u out for an hour because the cars thinks some one is trying to steel it.
U will need to have it towed to a dealer and have the dealer program how ever many keys u have to the car. We program at my dealer keys and computers for people all the time   they will more then likely charge u for an hours labor.
