Chrysler Repair: 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport - error codes P0605/P0700, grand caravan sport, dodge grand caravan sport

Question
My wife has a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport. About a week ago, the ABS light came on while driving on the interstate and stayed on for about 1/2 the day.

This morning, her check engine light came on and the van is in "limp in" mode. Won't shift into higher gears. Engine is generally sluggish.

Had the error codes read at AutoZone and they came back as P0605 and P0700.

Any idea what could be at the cause of these problems? And, most importantly, how much this might cost?

The van is at the point where we're ready to push it off a cliff. 5 years old and just over 75K miles, but tons of problems.

Any help will be truly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Shawn,
I would set aside the ABS light history for now.
On the codes, the 0700 meas that a problem with the trans was detected and therefor the light came on and limp in was set up. The 0605 means that there is either an internal problem with the trans controller or its plug or wiring. You can find the controller on the side wall of the engine compartment, the passenger side, high up on the wall at the front corner. Look over the plug and harness. If nothing remarkable appears, then a trans shop or dealer is probably the next step to verify that it has to be the controller, replace it, have them use the diagnositic readout box to do a 'quick learn' and 'reset of the pinion factor' to complete the job properly.
Sorry to learn of your problem. Hang in there though.
