Chrysler Repair: 1989 Lebaron: codes 23, 51, rich mixture, chrysler dealer

Question
Roland,
I got the codes from the Lebaron, 12, 23, and 51. From the web site you gave me it looks like maybe an O2 sensor and maybe a air temp sensor is in order. It looks like it's a fix I can do myself and sounds like it will help with the rich mixture. Can I get these at the local Auto parts store or do you recommend a certain brand?
Thanks for your help.
Stephan

Answer
Hi Stephan,
You are welcome. The charge temp sensor is not likely to be dependent on manufacturer. The O2 sensor might be more important. I would go Bosch if that is available, otherwise get one from the Chrysler dealer. Use some penetrating oil on the threads for a few hours before you try to remove the old one, and use the thread lubricant that should be in the box with the new sensor. It tightens to about the same torque as a spark plug (20 foot-pounds) and needs a 22 mm wrench. The charge temp sensor is only torqued to about 4 foot pounds so don't overdo that.
Good luck with your Lebaron.
Roland
