Chrysler Repair: Water Pump replacement 2003 Sebring, chrysler sebring lxi, water pump replacement

Question
Hello, I have a 2003 Chrysler Sebring LXI V6 2.7 Sedan that the water pump is leaking only slightly.  I wanted to know does $1100 seem like a fair price to change the pump, thermostat and the Timing Chain? no its not a belt.  And is the timing chain even a good thing to change while doing the pump?  the mechanic said they highly recomend doing it just to make sure.  Is this a very indepth repair?  I had one shop refuse to do the work because it was too indepth????  I have a friend say that he would be able to do it no problem in his garage, should I trust him he works on cars "part time"

Answer
yeah ahhh no  dont let your friend do this unless he has done a 2.7 water pump b4. IF he does not install the chair right  or skip a step on the guide  u will be buying basically a new engine. ALl the crap involved for just a water pump its no fun. If u can get by dont do it just yet but be prepared to do so when it leaks alot. yeah 1100  sounds right for all the parts and such.
