Chrysler Repair: Gauges and odometers dead on 1994 Eagle Vision, check fuse, gauge data

Question
The instrument panel gauges on my 1994 Eagle Vision recently went dead -- fuel, tach, speedometer and engine temp, as well as all "idiot lights" are non-functional.  The odometers (primary and trip) have also stopped turning.

Turn signal indicators and backlighting are fine.

I have already checked the "gauges" fuse (17) and it was fine.  Replacing it did not fix the problem.

Is there another item I can check, before I start looking for a broken component?

Thanks,

DC

Answer
Hi D. Cleric,
I looked over the diagrams and can't find a fuse that might be involved but just in case check fuse #9. At first I thought it might be the digital data bus system that brings all the gauge data (except fuel level) but then you said all idiot lights too. Those lights are not all based on the bus data. So that pretty much leads me to suggest that the ground leads from the two plugs on the cluster be checked. Those are the all black wire and the black/light green wires. Also check the plug socket to cluster circuit board connections for possibility of a cold solder joint for the power feeds: pink/red and red/white on the black plug. The turn signal lights are each hard wired but they come in on separate plugs. So if you are sure that the turn signals and the back lighting are the only things working it would be hard to exlain the loss of everything else on a single problem, unless one of the power feeds has a bad connection to the plug or between the plug and cluster board. So verify that you are getting 12v on the power feeds when you have the ignition and headlights "on". I am curious to know what you learn.
