Chrysler Repair: 99 Concorde ATC light, soldering pencil, solder connection

Question
My ATC display goes out and before I could press on the display and the light would come back on.  But it has stayed off for months then will work for 1 day.  I might need to replace the bulb but have no idea how to get to it.

Answer
Hi Sandie,
I am not certain that the display illumination module is a part you can buy from the dealer to replace. You may need to find a control unit at a wrecking yard, but check at the dealer parts counter first.
The trim bezel for the control is held in place by 5 clips, so you should be able to ease it out by gently prying from the edge. Begin by removing the ash receiver if there is one. Then remove the trim bezel which appears to have the control attached to it.
The control and the bezel itself appear to be held together by screws. Then disconnect the two or three electrical plugs.
Once you get the control unit out you might open it up and examine the attachment of the display module to the circuti board. There may just me a broken solder connection that you can repair with a soldering pencil and some solder that would restore the display to normal functioning.
Before you do any disassembly try doing a diagnostic self-test on the unit. With the engine running but the car not moving:
Simultaneously press the floor, mix, and defrost buttons and hold them in. If the display begins to blink, then release the buttons. It will continue to blink while the unit does tests. Finally it may display a two-digit number, if any, which is the fault code. If one number is displayed, then press the Panel button to display a second number if there is one, etc.  Let me know of any fault codes. If nothing (no blinking, no numbers) shows up on the display then indeed the display is bad or badly connected internally.
