Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Concorde: wipers malfunction, chrysler concorde, postal mail

Question
Dear Roland

My question is about Chrysler Concorde 1998, 2.7L. From time to time, wipers start behaving weird: they might either continue their job after I’ve switched them off, or do their job at extremely low speed, or – sometimes – stop working… However, almost always switching on/off wiper’s knob on the steering column (sometimes for several times) returned their function to the normal one.

What’s the problem? Maybe wiper intermittent relay has to be changed (where is it located in this case?)?

Many thanks in advance. God that you exist!

Alex

Answer
Hi Alex,
There are two relays for the wipers located in the power distribution center box under the hood near the battery. They are #6 on/off, and #11 high/low speed. So you might try switching those after verifying that they have the same part number, to see if the behavior changes which if so would implicate one of the relays. The intermittent function is controlled by the body computer which is a possible cause but is too expensive to simply replace without proof. There are a variety of diagnostic tests that you can try once you have checked out the relays, and while these require a volt-ohm-amp meter these would probably help you to locate the problem. It could be the motor, the switch, the wiring, the relays, or the body computer. There appear to be several issues; that may be due to a faulty relay, so check those out by switching them.
There are about 14 pages from the '98 manual that I would be glad to copy and postal mail to you. It would cost me about $2 for the copies and postage which you could reimburse via 5 new stamps after you receive them. There are too many tests for me to type the instruction in here.
So let me know a mailing address if you want those pages.
Roland
