Chrysler Repair: re: digital dash, digital dash, reset buttons

Question
the digital dash will flash about every 5 seconds when the car is turned off?
What segments are flashing? all the digits flash on the entire display
Does this never stop? no, only when you disconect the battery.

Answer
Hi Bill,
While I haven't owned a Chrysler with an electronic cluster I recall that in some vehicles when you open the driver's door the dash is supposed to light up. Is that the way it worked previously? What does it do now when you open the door?
I would suggest you try to do a self diagnostic test on the unit. If you have the K-body LeBaron:
Simultaneously press the trip and reset buttons
Turn thie ignition switch to "run"
Releases the trip and reset buttons
The odometer should display "EIC"
Then repeatedly press and release US/MET button and observe the result; keep pressing the US/MET button to cycle through 5 additional tests. If after the test the unit returns to normal function the cluster is ok
If it doesn't, tell me what happened and when in the tests.
If you have the H-body GTS model:
do the same thing accept start the engine rather than just turn the key to "run",
the odometer should display "chec",
and then do the same tests by pressing the US/MET buttons.
I am thinking that if the cluster passes the tests that you may have a flaky door open sensing switch/wire lead. I have the diagrams for the vehicles, but tell me if you have the K or the H body car.
