Chrysler Repair: heater doesnf produce hot air:minivan, engine thermostat, temp gauge

Question
hi ya just bought a 3.3 voyager and the heater dont blow hot, the blower is blowing but only cold coming out.
is it just a thermostat

Answer
Hi Ray,
I don't believe it is the engine thermostat if your temp gauge is showing readings about C. First find the two hoses that go thru the firewall to the heater core in the cabin. Then after driving the van check whether the two hoses are equally hot, which would tell you if you have flow thru the core or not. If not, then you have to reverse flush the core via the hoses using a garden hose. If so, then your problem is a door which splits the incoming air between the heater core and the AC core to provide the desired temperature. The door is called the blend air door and how it works depends upon the year of the van. I have manuals for 93,95 and 98 so tell me the year of the van and I can give you advice on how to check out the blend door's movement and how repair it if it isn't functioning.
