Chrysler Repair: 88 LeBaron power antenna, lebaron convertible, turn off radio

Question
my daughter has an 88 Lebaron convertible; the mast is broken on the power antenna; it sounds like the motor runs when the radio is turned off and on.  Can the mast be replaced?  How difficult is it?

Answer
Hi Leonard,
First you have to remove the cap nut which is described as a Miller Tool C-4816, but you may be able to improvise.
Install temporary nut provided with replacement mast.
Turn ignition key to accessory position and turn on radio. While the mast is moving up pull upward to remove mast and drive rod from the mast tube.

Insert new drive rod into mast tube with drive teeth toward antenna motor (observe teeth when removing for the direction). Turn off radio and guide mast into the tube.
The mast may not be fully lowered when first installed. Replace the temporary nut with the permanent nut. Turn radio on and off to extend and retract antenna. Recycling should result in full lowering.

Let me know if you need to pull the entire unit out and I can xerox and mail you the instructions.
