Question

Answer
Hi Lou,
You didn't mention the year of the car so I can't be exactly specific but I assume this is a Chrysler product. It has gone into "limp-in mode" which it does when the trans controller senses a problem that needs repair to prevent unnecessary damage and keep it moving using the least number of parts. You can get a readout of the controller memory where a coded fault number is stored, using the under-dash access port. Once you get a readout
(perhaps for free at an Autozone Parts store, or at shop with a reader and a 'special' for maybe $40, otherwise at a dealer for maybe $75) for the fault code numbers, ask what they mean, what is the repair, and the estimated cost, write me back with the number and we can compare notes with what the manuals say about that code. That is the only way to avoid a very expensive rebuild or 'fishing trip' type of repair.
