Chrysler Repair: T&C 1998 problems: engine shuts down after start, pin receptacle, powertrain control

Question
Thanks for the last answer. Here is another part:
I have a 1998 T&C LX. When I turn on the key to start the engine, it starts and revs then shuts down. Its like no computer involvement. This has happened 3 times. I am having AC fan problems as well. This morning it would not start. Tonight it runs fine. When it does this and no known time it will just not start. The dash lights do not work and the Tach shows nothing. I live in Cancun Mexico and the Chrysler shop really has no idea of what is going on. I have to have all my parts brought in from the US...........It sucks

Answer
Hi Mike,
I would suggest two possibilities:
The anti-theft system may be hung up in the alarmed state when it starts but then shuts down after a few seconds. So if you are activating that system when you secure the van, try not to use it in the future by just using the push button door locks to close it up. Also if you have an alarm light on the dash see if it is showing the disarmed condition. You may have a flakey wire from the driver's door switch to the body computer. You can also disarm the alarm by locking and unlocking the passenger side door as an alternative.
The other possibility is that there is some communication issue between the body and powertrain control modules involving the digital data bus wires. Try to get a readout of the fault codes that may be stored in those memories using a readout box plugged into the 16 pin receptacle under the dash near the steering column. You may also get a readout by turning the ignition key: on-off-on-off-on and leave it on, doing that in 5 seconds or less. Look at the odomener window on the dash to see if instead of mileage it might rather give you some 4-digit code numbers. Either way let me know the codes and we'll take it from there.

PS The fan problems are not likely related to the starting issues. That as I told you is probably related to a failed fan relay.
