Chrysler Repair: Cooling Fans Replacement: LH Body (Intrepid, etc.), upper radiator hose, radiator support

Question
2002 Intrepid both fans seized. Noticed it after rear end accident. There does not seem to be much room to remove the fan assemble. Do you have a step by step procedure I could follow?

Answer
Hi Terry:
The most recent manual I have for that body style is a '98 Concorde. It has a 12-step procedure in either direction for removing the radiator, but just stop at the point where the fan module is removed; in fact the trick may just be to remove the crossmember, but I can't be sure of that. Here is the procedure for the radiator:
drain cooling system, protecting the drive belts from getting any coolant on them. The next step is to remove the upper radiator crossmember. After removing the radiator cooling system hose connections, the trans cooler hose connections and plugging those, the oil cooler connections (if equipped), and fan wiring connector, remove the fan module (four fasteners on the corners, two clips at the middle top and bottom). Use care to avoid bending the condenser inlet tube. Remove the condenser attaching screws (one on either side) from the front of the radiator. Remove fasteners for bracket that connects the transmission cooler line to the left side of the radiator. Lift A/C condenser up only enough to clear the upper mounting clips, and allow condenser to rest on lower radiator crossmember. It is not necessary to discharge the A/C system. Radiator can now be lifted free from the engine compartment.
Install is the reverse: slide radiator down onto the cross member making sure that rubber supports fit in holes. Attach A/C condenser with 2 fasteners (45 inch pounds of torque). Connect lower radiator hose and clamp. Connect trans cooler line bracket and trans cooler hose lines (22 inch pounds). Install fan module. Connect electrical to fan.  Connect engine oil cooler (if equipped). Install upper radiator hose. Align hose to not interfere with drive belts or engine. Install upper radiator support crossmember. Fill system with coolant.
There is also a page on draining and refilling the system which I can xerox and postal mail to you. Let me know a postal mailing address and I will xerox and postal mail it to you.
I hope that this '98 description is applicable to your 2002 model year.
