Chrysler Repair: Timing specs for 3.0L 94 Voyager, coolant temp, timing specs

Question
Hi Roland, all the service manuals say the timing specs are on an emission label in the engine compartment.  But that's long gone, no where to be found!  Where else can I find the timing specs for this engine (I even looked in the owner's manual!) ?  Or do I just do it by trial-and-error until it runs well?? Right now it knocks under heavy accelaration (getting onto freeway) and has poor power going up long inclines.

Answer
Hi John,
The timing spec for that year and engine is 12 BTDC with the engine warmed up, in park or neutral, and with the plug for the coolant temp sensor removed from the sensor (the cooling fan will start up, but ignore that). The sensor is located adjacent to the thermostat housing and has 2 wires (tan/black and black/light blue). Then just adjust by rotating the distributor to get that reading. Then reattach the plug. A 22 code will be set in the memory of the engine controller, but it will self-erase in 50-100 key cycles, or you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes in which case the code 12 will be set and it will similarly self-erase. You will probably find your timing is too far advanced based on what you reported. Let me know your postal address if you want a copy of the vacuum hose diagram which is also on that missing sticker. Use the thank/rate tab to leave that in the comment section
