Chrysler Repair: Power windows, AC & blower, air bag quit: 96 LH car, rear window defroster, amp fuse

Question
"I have a 96 Intriped, with 3.3.  Today the Airbag light come on, the power windows quit working, rear window defroster stopped, AC stopped and heater fan stopped.  Had this problem 3 years ago , but it would work after awhile.  Now they won't start working again.  Seem to remember the mechanic saying it was some pigtail wire under the hood, and Dodge had made it for a fix to this type of problem.  Where should I look for a fix to this.  All fuses are fine."

Answer
Hi David,
I wonder if you also checked the fuses in the power distributon box that is under the hood, behind the battery next to the inner fender? There is a fuse J (40 Amp) which in fact provides power several fuses under the dash which are assigned to all the systems that failed. So see if that J fuse is not blown. But then, if you have a digital ohmmeter, check to see if the resistance that it "looks at" compared to ground (any shiney structural metal on the body or the - post of the battery) is more than 0.5 ohm. If it appears to be grounded (near 0 ohm) then you will need to find out which of the four fuses under the dash shows a near 0 reading similarly because there is a short in that circuit that needs to be corrected. Maybe it blew because of fatigue however, so don't make a big thing of that possibility unless a new 40 amp fuse also blows.
