Chrysler Repair: Alarm system goes off on its own: Sebring, water intrusion, fuse box

Question
After carwash this weekend,my car alarm is going off when I unlock/open the doors.Dealership's telling me to replace BCM($900+). BCM isn't having any other failure or errors other than car alarm. Dealer said it cannot be bypassed or disconnected-I don't need alarm. Is there a way to stop alarm-cannot afford new BCM. Thank you so much for your time and advice!!

Answer
Hi Kathy,
I suspect that the car wash resulted in water intrusion around the lower edge of the windshield or front of the door opening and that the water ran down onto the junction box (fuse box)/bcm module pack that is under the dash on the driver's side. There are plugs on the back side of the module and also some connections between the two halves of that package. My suggestion would be to examine that set of units and either unplug the plugs and inspect them and their sockets for water or crud which is likely shorting together wires that should be isolated from one another. You can also buy a can of electrical contact cleaner at an electronics supply store that will help evaporate the water and clean off the contact surfaces from any scum. Take a look under the dash on the driver's side near the sidewall to find the fuse box and the other half which is the bcm. Let me know if you can't figure out how to get at these items. It is common problem with convertibles.
If this doesn't resolve the problem, then it is conceivable that there may be a similar problem with the switch on a door lock key cylinder, but set the aside for now and focus on the bcm.
The dealer is trying to rip you off by refusing to consider examining the unit for this possibility. He is correct about not being able to turn it off, however. The system is intergrated into the bcm so there is no way to remove it except to buy a bcm that doesn't have that feature!
