Chrysler Repair: MIL 2001 T&C: Codes 1684 and 0456, windshield washer fluid, fuel evaporation

Question
I have P1684 and P0456 as codes for my MIL. What do they mean and can they be fixed without going to the dealer?

Answer
Hi Steve,
The 1684 is an unremarkable one: the battery was disconnected sometime within the last 50 key-on-off cycles. If you can't recall that happening, then check the battery clamps to be sure they are tight.
The 0456 means that the fuel evaporation collection system has been detected to have a very small leak. So if you can check all the hoses between the fuel vapor collection system items: the fuel tank, the leak detectecion pump (located on the frame under the engine cradle and accessible from underneath), the leak collection control solenoid (located near the windshield washer fluid bottle), and the vapor canister (located on the frame approximately below the driver's seat, also from underneath2), you may find a loose hose clamp is the cause of this code. So I think you can find this one yourself. You may want to disconnect the battery for a few minutes to erase the codes after you have corrected it, but the 1684 will still be there afterwards because of the disconnect, but it too will go away in a while. The hose routing is shown on the underhood EPA sticker.
