Chrysler Repair: van engine mounts/rear disc brake pad (shoe) replcmt., dodge grand caravan, disc brake pad

Question
I tried to pull out the old rubber insert from the mount, but it does not move a bit! Do I need a special tool for removal of the old insert?

One more quick question: I will be changing rear brakes pads and discs. I have changed front discs and pads earlier; is the job on rear wheels similar to front wheels? Any special precaution for the rear wheels?

-----Question-----
The engine is the famous 3.3L.

The right and left mounts are ok. Front is for sure bad and I will try to look for the rear one. If you can xerox the pages about mount replacement, it will be perfect. My Haynes manual talks about it very generally.

One more question: How to take out the bad insert out of mount and put in the new rubber insert? Can I do it myself? or do you recommend changing the complete mount?

Thanks for all of your help. Regards,

-----Question-----
1999 Dodge Grand Caravan LE 102K

The front mount is broken but I am not able to locate the rear mount. I will appreciate if you can help me locate the rear mount to check if it is ok or not? I have read somewhere that I must change both front and rear mounts at the same, even if only one has failed; is this true? Is it necessary to change both front and rear mounts at the same time?
Thanks for your time and help. Regards,

Hi Shafique,
The way to find it is to jack up the front of the van and remove the left front wheel which will give you a better view of it. I have not read that you have to change one because another one is broken, anywhere in the Van shop manual. The "front" mount is actually positioned toward the front of the van, while the "rear" mount is at the rear of the drivetrain. Then there are also a left and a right mount.
If you will tell me which engine you have I can xerox and postal mail you the pages that show you how to deal with the mounts. Let me know via the thank and rate tab which has a space for comments.

Hi Shafique,
Thanks for the kind evaluation. I'll xerox the pages about the 3.3L mounts and send them. It appears you can just replace the mount rubber insulator yourself without having to buy the entire fitting. Please tell me youe postal mailing address via the comment section of the 'thank and rate'.

Answer
Hi Shafique,
My mistake...the manual doesn't describe replacing just the rubber, so see what you can buy as the minimal part for replacing that mount.
On the rear disc brakes, they are different from the fronts so I better also send you the pages from the manual if the Haynes doesn't show the procedure. I assume that you are just doing the disc brake pads (though the manual calls them shoes) and not the calipers or the parking brake shoes.
