Chrysler Repair: P1698 code:is it related to a remote car starter?, remote car starter, transmission control module

Question
Yes its related to the remote car starter.  Every second or third time I use it the engine light goes on for a few days.  I was thinking it may be installed wrong.  Its an Audiovox Pro-9675FT.  Thanks again for your help.  -Ivan

-----Question-----
I'm getting a P1698 code that seems to come on every once in a while when I use my car starter.  I added the car starter(dealer installed) when I purchased my 2001 Dakota. The light came on then, but at that time I didn't know how to check the code on the odometer and when I mentioned it to the dealer they said it'll go on once in a while.  Being naive I never got it checked out since the light would go out in a few days and the engine sounded fine. I'm at the point where I just want to fix it.  Any ideas?  I might also try to contact the car starter manufacturer.  Thanks. -Ivan

Hi Ivan,
I don't believe that the P1698 code has anything to do with the starter (do you mean the starter motor, or a remote starter device, or?). My code list for 2001 says it means "no trans bus messages" and is described  as "no digital bus messages are being received from the transmission control module via the data bus at the powertrain control module".
However if you have no problems with the way the engine and transmission are interacting with one another I would just ignore the code. It might have something to do with the remote starter operating the starter motor in some manner which appears to the powertrain controller to be by-passing the digital data that comes from the transmission control module, such as the p[osition of the transmission range selector switch or some other aspect of the starting process. But in the absence of a functional manifestation I would just ignore this. If something later appears in the driveability/remote staring ability then pursuing this code might make sense.
That is my best suggestion.

Answer
Hi Ivan,
The only way to resolve this, it seems to me, is to find the instruction manual for installing the unit and check it out for yourself. But again, if there is no impact on the functioning of the truck why worry about it? It appears to be a transitory message that doesn't impact the way it runs. I have no information about these units and also little or no information about your vehicle so I can't offer any other help to you. I hope you can resolve this to your satisfaction.
