Chrysler Repair: RPM Gauge broken, interworkings, instrument cluster

Question
This may be something minute, but i am not very knowledgeable with cars and their interworkings. Recently i noticed that my RPM Gauge when the car is started up sits at 5,000 RPM instead of 0. I listened to the car run when i revved the engine It would kick up to 9,000(max RPM for this car), but again i know that it is just a broken gauge. Is there something wrong that potentially turn into something serious or maybe just a wiring problem. Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Answer
Hi David,
The gauge is just that...an indication of the rpm, but its malfunction will not impact the engine in any way that I can see. You didn't say the year and model of Chrysler you have so I can't tell you a specific fix for the gauge. On the mid-80 to mid-90 vehicles the tachometer gauge had a part called module that could be replaced by removing the instrument cluster and substituting a new one on the circuit board. But aside from reading wrong I think there is nothing to worry about.
