Chrysler Repair: Blower motor for heat-ac only has high speed: 94 van, blower motor resistor, heating and air conditioning

Question
I have a 1994 Plymouth caravan. The blower motor ,for heating and air-conditioning , only works on high. Do you have any ideas about how I can fix it? thanks

Answer
Hi John,
This is a very common question. There is a component called the blower motor resistor block which when one of the wires/
resistors breaks causes there to be only the full 12V supply to the blower, rather than a series of stepped down voltages at the other switch settings. It is fairly inexpensive so getting a new one from the dealer is a good idea. It is located in the engine compartment in the upper corner of the firewall on the passenger side (right) of the van. It is rectangular and has a five-wire plug. Two screws hold it in place on either side of the plug. The resistors are not visible until you remove the block, they are located so as to be in the airstream that brings the intake air for the heater to the cabin via the plenum that is right in front of the windshield under the intake grating. So look in that upper right corner and you should find it. When you install the new one check to make sure the resistors don't touch one another, separating them with your fingers, gently.
That should restore the multiple speeds to the blower.
