Chrysler Repair: 1995 Electronic Transmission Problems During Extreme Cold Weather, extreme cold weather, cold snap

Question
My 95 Lebaron transmission works perfectly at temps above 20 degrees;  but when it goes and stays below that it won't go into drive and/or shift properly.  After a cold snap it resumes its perfect behavior.  Any clues as to the problem.  Thanks TG

Answer
Hi Tim,
I don't have any specific or certain knowledge, but would wonder if the pressure output of the pump for the fluid is below what is necessary to operate the solenoids and switches. Maybe the filter could be clogged, maybe the fluid too thin or too thick? The pressures can be measured at various ports.
What the "fix" might be would likely be known by an experienced trans mechanic. But...these electronic transaxles are very delicate and complex so I would want to be very certain to always stick with Chrysler brand trans fluid and a shop that really has experience with the trans. They are very expensive to rebuild so you don't want to provoke a problem.
If you have another vehicle I would even suggest letting the LeB sit until things warm up. You may be "living" on borrowed time with the unit so letting it hibernate might be prudent.
