Chrysler Repair: 99 Intrepid 2.7L: timing chain replacement, timing chain replacement, chrysler service

Question
i have a 99 intrepid 2.7.  I recently replaced the primary timing chain.  The car ran smooth as silk for about a minute.  now it sounds like a diesel with valvetrain rattle.  i did a compression check (125 to 140) across all 6 cyl.  Oil pressure at the sending unit was 75psi at idle.  could the tensioner be bad? I think I reset it properly (per the Mitchell manual) I pulled the rh valve cover and the tensioner was still extended.

Answer
Hi Dieter,
Something may be wrong with the tensioner. I personally have not worked on this engine. Just today I received a used copy of the Chrysler Service Manual for that engine that was issued for the '98 model year, which was the first year it was introduced. There are about 5 pages with figures that show the process for chain replacement. I don't have a document scanner but I would be pleased to xerox copy and postal mail you the pages tomorrow. Let me know your address if you want me to do that. I will be shown as "maxed out" but if you will use the "rate the expert" tab there is a place to enter "comments" where you can list the address. I get an alert when the rating in received so will be able to promptly respond tomorrow. The procedure for priming the tensioner is  complicated but I could try to type it into a response to you if time is pressing for you. It uses a tool (# 8186) "timing chain tensioner resetting gauge" probably manufactured by Miller Tool Co.
Did the Mitchell manual show that aspect of the procedure and did you have the tool to use?
I'll await your response.
