Chrysler Repair: Concorde (LHS) floor shift cable, adjustment., rearmost position, oval hole

Question
2000 concord with floor shifter does not like to go into park. box around p dissapesrs.does it have a cable that can be adjusted?

Answer
Hi James,
Yes, according to my Chrysler '94 manual and my Haynes '93-97, it is adjustable. The cable adjustment is under the console bezel for the shifter. You remove the shift handle (3/16" allen wrench, on the side of the shift handle). Then remove ashtray for access to two screws at front of console bezel, remove screws, lift front of bezel and release from clips at rear. You will see an oval hole next to the shifter (to the left of it). Put the trans as close as you can to park using the shift lever. Then loosen the nut hidden in the oval opening. Then go to the shifter lever at the transaxle and move that lever to the rearmost position, which is park. Make sure the parking sprag has engaged by rocking vehicle back and forth. Then place shifter in cabin in the park position. Put ignition key in the lock position, remove key. Tighten adjuster nut at shifter. Replace bezel and shifter handle. Check that shifter moves smoothly after unlocking and that starter only works in park and neutral.
I will be getting a Chrysler '98 Concorde service manual next week that I bought on eBay. If there is anything different I'll let you know. It should be the same as your 2000.
