Chrysler Repair: 1989 5th Avenue Stereo Replacement, torx head screws, wheel drive car

Question
Hello
Trying to take out the board in front of the stereo in order to replace it. Found 2 screws (bottom), unscrewed them but now I am stuck. It does not come out at upper side , afraid not to brake it . How do I take it out?
Also, the reason I try to change the the original one is that it acts strangely. Loudspeakers go on and off randomly, lots of noise. What do you think?
Thank you !
Happy New Year!
Emil

Answer
Hi Emil,
Is that a front or rear wheel drive vehicle? If it is the front wheel drive then my manual shows that the stereo is part of the main bezel that includes the instrument cluster.
That is held in place by 5 torx head screws that run across the very top of the bezel on underside edge. Then there are spring fasteners on the lower edge.
If this is a rear wheel drive car, then I am limited in that my only manuals for that larger vehicle come from 1983 and I will be glad to look at that and see if it might still apply to your '89.
In any case, the noise may be simply due to dirt/corrosion products on the volume controls/balance controls. You could buy electronic conact cleaner in a spray can at an electronics supply store and try spraying the controls which when moved caused the noise/static. Than might solve the problem for you. You may have to remove the control unit to effectively get at the switch bodies where the actual contact is made.
So let me know if it is the rear wheel vehicle and I'll let you know about the '83 design. Look for any screws that might be hidden from view on the underside of the upper lip if there is one.
Thanks for the good wishes, and to you too!
